Director of Public Relations
A. Bright Idea is currently looking for a Director of Public Relations to lead strategic public relations and outreach strategies in support of our clients and offices based in Maryland, Northern and Southern California. This fast-paced, high-volume environment requires the ability to effectively deliver timely, creative, customized, strategic solutions for our diverse client base.

The Director of Public Relations leads and owns public relations strategies from ideation to execution with thorough consultation to our clients to best meet their communication goals. This person develops relationships, asks probing questions from a strategic lens, then applies strategy, working across teams, to develop practical and compelling solutions.

With a keen attention to detail, the Director of Public Relations leads the team to ensure projects exceed expectations, are always on time and on budget. Often serving as an expert and point of contact for clients, you must possess deep experience in strategic communications planning, media and public relations, understanding of the importance of research and using data to drive decision making with the ability to provide thoughtful recommendations across a variety of communication disciplines and content types.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide strategic oversight of public relations and media relations activities
  • Work across channels and with directors including marketing, social, digital and advertising to develop communications strategies and tactics to support specific client goals and tailored to various audiences, both internal and external
  • Support internal communication strategies and implementation
  • Provide media relations oversight and guidance along with our Media Relations Manager, including handling inbound reporter inquiries, spokesperson coordination, media training and interview preparation, key message development and response to queries
  • Drive measurement plans that incorporate quantitative and qualitative media analysis and data to provide actionable recommendations and drive share of voice, positive media sentiment and content strategies
  • Public Relations budget and client project and budget management and oversight

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications or related field
  • Minimum 10+ years public relations, media relations, communications and project management experience
  • Minimum 3+ years experience managing a team with demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve positive results through others
  • Knowledge of and experience using media monitoring tools such as Cision, Meltwater, Muck Rack, etc.
